I grew up in San Luis Obispo and graduated from SLO High (don't hold that against me!). I went to The Ohio State University for undergrad and majored in History and Political Science with a minor in Geography. I loved going to school there and you will quickly learn about my obsession with all things Ohio State, especially football. After graduating I attended the University of Pennsylvania to earn a Master’s Degree in Secondary Social Studies Education and completed student teaching in Philadelphia. I began my teaching career at Gaston Day School in Gastonia, North Carolina, and taught 7th and 8th grade history there for four years. While teaching at GDS, I decided to pursue a second Master’s Degree, this time in American History. I was awarded the James Madison Memorial Foundation Fellowship to earn this degree through the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, and spent a summer studying the US Constitution at Georgetown. After I completed that degree I moved to San Francisco and taught 7th grade World History for two years. Now I am very happy to be back on the Central Coast and teaching at AGHS.

When I’m not teaching or learning about history, I enjoy being outdoors (paddleboarding, hiking) and watching sports. I also love traveling and try to go abroad each summer. In the summer of 2019, I got to take a group of high school students to Florence, Italy, where we studied for 3 weeks (I got to take Italian Cooking, which was definitely the best class to supervise!). I love learning about the history and culture of the places that I travel to. It adds such dimension to things you read about it in a textbook or other history books.
