COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This general biology class will satisfy one full year of the college prep laboratory science requirement.

The course begins with the study of life at the cellular level then broadens into the study of living

 organisms and their interactions with the environment.

The following are the California State Standards/Next Generation Science Standards for Biology

and will be covered in this class.

 

UNIT:

(#1a) The Chemistry of Life, Structure and Function  

(#1b) Growth & development of organisms and Organization for matter and energy flow in organisms

(#2a) Intro to Genetics, Inheritance of traits

(#2b) DNA The Structure & Physiology, Variation of traits (genetic & environmental factors), Probability  

(#3a)  Common Ancestry/ Diversity, Natural Selection, & Adaptation

(#3b) Biodiversity and Humans, Developing possible solutions

(#4a) Interdependent relationships, Populations, Ecosystems (Dynamics, Functioning, Resilience)

(#4b) Cycles of matter and energy transfer
