The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County’s scholarship program began in 2000 and has awarded more than 1000 scholarships and awards, worth more than $2.3 million, to local students. The Community Foundation’s scholarship season begins annually in December,  with most deadlines for submission during February and March.  Applicants must fill out their online application for each scholarship for which they wish to apply.

 

The 2020-21 scholarships available to AGHS students are:

  • Maureen “Mo” Clancy Memorial Scholarship ($2,000) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Established to honor the memory of Maureen “Mo” Clancy. Mo lived to help others and will forever be remembered as a strong-willed, loving and passionate person. Applicant must be a senior girl at a San Luis Obispo County high school, planning to attend full-time at an approved community college, four-year college or vocational school.

  • Sera Day Coryell Nursing Education Scholarship ($2,000, renewable) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Supports graduating seniors in San Luis Obispo County. The Scholarship Committee intends to award one $2,000 scholarship that may be annually renewed providing that the student is making satisfactory progress toward a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program requirements and maintains a 3.0 GPA.

  • Douglas De Gross Automotive Studies ($2,000) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Supports graduating high school seniors in San Luis Obispo County who are pursuing a career in the automotive industry. The applicant must be committed to pursuing a post-secondary education at an approved community college, four-year college/university or vocational school.

  • Helen and Ronald Dunin Legacy Scholarship ($12,000 over 4 years) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Supports graduating high school seniors in San Luis Obispo County who are planning to attend a four-year university. First in immediate family to attend college. Minimum GPA of 2.7 to maximum of 3.7.

  • Sandra Ferris Scholarship ($10,000) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Supports graduating high school seniors in San Luis Obispo County who are planning to pursue a degree in visual arts at a four-year university.

  • The Garris Family Scholarship ($8,000) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Supports graduating seniors at public high schools in San Luis Obispo County. Applicant must be dedicated to attend any post-secondary education, full or part-time, and demonstrate need for financial aid, and be Pell Grant eligible, with a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.7 and a max of 3.7.

  • Dorothy Good Trust for AVID Scholarship ($1,000-$2,000) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Supports graduating AVID senior(s) from Arroyo Grande and Nipomo High Schools. Applicant must have participated in AVID for three of their four high school years and plan to attend a four-year university. Minimum GPA of 2.8.

  • Gary Grossman Scholarship- for LGBTQ ($1,000 - $5,000) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Established to provide post-secondary scholarship assistance to high school or college students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

  • Kelly A. McAdams Scholarship ($10,000 over 4 years) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Established to honor the memory of Kelly A. McAdams, a graduate of our local schools and a life-long student with an inquisitive mind. Intended to support a deserving high school student from San Luis Obispo county, and will be a multi-year $2,500 scholarship, with a total value of $10,000 over the four years.

  • Justin McCutcheon Scholarship ($1,000)-for Varsity golfers in CCAA– DEADLINE: May 1, 2021

    • In memory of Justin McCutcheon, this scholarship will be awarded annually to a senior golfer attending a high school in San Luis Obispo or northern Santa Barbara County that participates in the CCAA sports league.

  • Gary Paul Piantanida Scholarship ($12,000 over 4 years) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Established to fund scholarships for qualified students or graduates from a high school in San Luis Obispo County. The Scholarship Committee intends to award a multi-year $3,000 scholarship, with a total value of $12,000 over the four years. Qualifications include merit, school/community service and financial need.

  • Burt and Virginia Polin “Elks” Scholarship ($2,000) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Open to graduating seniors from a San Luis Obispo County high school who plan to pursue a degree in public safety, psychology, or sociology at a four-year university. Minimum GPA of 3.0. The scholarship is based on the Elks tenets of: charity, justice, patriotism, good fellowship & service.

  • Burt W. and Virginia Polin “Farm Bureau” Scholarship ($1,500) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Open to graduating seniors from a San Luis Obispo County high school who plan to pursue a degree in agriculture at an approved community college or four-year university.

  • Dorothy Ross Memorial Scholarship ($1,000; renewable) - DEADLINE: March 5, 2021

    • Established to support students who have served time in juvenile hall and have demonstrated a life change and a commitment to higher education.

  • Richard K. Sauret Viticulture and Enology Scholarship ($12,000 over 4 years) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Open to graduating seniors from a San Luis Obispo County high school who plan to major in viticulture or enology at a four-year university. Preference given to students attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal State Fresno, and UC Davis.

  • Scholarship and Mentorship Scholarship ($1,000 - $2,500) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Established to provide financial support for current or former foster youth who are participating in Family Care Network's Independent Living Program. Total award value will be dependent on the recipient's post-secondary institution and enrollment status. Minimum GPA of 2.0

  • Bernhard H. Singsen Scholarship ($2,500) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Open to graduating male seniors from a San Luis Obispo County high school pursuing a career in medicine, civil service or service or education at a four-year liberal arts college or university. Minimum GPA 3.75. Financial need.

  • Alan D. Stephenson Scholarship for LGBTQ ($10,000 over 4 years) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Open to graduating seniors from a San Luis Obispo County high school who plan to attend a four year university. Candidate identifies as LGBTQ and has a minimum GPA of 2.75.

  • Vineyard and Farm Workers Scholarship ($1,500-$10,000, renewable) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Supports higher education for the children of vineyard and farm workers. The applicant must be committed to pursuing a post-secondary education at Allan Hancock College, Cuesta College or California Polytechnic State University-SLO. The award will be multi-year and dependent upon years attending college/university. Minimum GPA of 2.8

  • Richard J. Weyhrich Leadership Award ($3,000) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021

    • Wanted: School and Community leaders! The Scholarship Committee would like to award at least one $3,000 scholarship at each San Luis Obispo County comprehensive high school. This scholarship comes with recognition from the SLO County Board of Supervisors and a medal. If you are involved with your school or community, and demonstrate leadership potential this is for you!

  • Yingshia Shih Li Memorial Scholarship ($10,000 over 4 years) - DEADLINE: February 7, 2021 

    • Open to graduating female seniors attending high school in the Lucia Mar Unified School District that plan to attend a four-year university to pursue a degree in science (Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Mathematics or Physics). Demonstrated financial need.

 

SPECIAL NOTE: Many of these scholarship applications request a letter of recommendation from any teacher or adult who can speak to your potential for this scholarship, via email sent by the application. The application requires unofficial transcripts and FAFSA results.

ELKS ASSOCIATION VOCATIONAL GRANT - Click Here!

The California-Hawaii Elks Association (CHEA) Vocational Grant Scholarship is available for any students wishing to pursue a vocational/technical course to receive a certification, or a 2-year schooling leading directly to employment. Any prospective student (male or female), residing within the jurisdiction of the CHEA, who plans to pursue an eligible vocational/technical course may file an application. Persons enrolling in a 4-year course leading to a Bachelor's degree are not eligible. All applicants must be citizens of the United States of America on the date the application is filed. Grants range from $500 to $2000.

 

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  Rolling. (This scholarship is available year around so there is no official deadline.)



ELKS MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP - Click here!


The Elks National Foundation will award 500 national 4-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2021 competition. Scholarships will also be awarded at the regional & state levels.

 

Eligibility:

Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply.

Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks.

College students are not eligible to apply.

Permanent legal resident status does not qualify.

Male and female students compete separately.

Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need.

ELKS TEENAGER OF THE MONTH SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION - Click Here!


The Oceano/Five Cities Elks Lodge # 2504 selects an AGHS senior male and female each month based on achievements, character, leadership, service, citizenship and scholastics. The Teenager of the Month will be recognized at an Elk’s dinner and will then be eligible for selection of "Teenager of the Year".  At the end of April, we have a panel of Elks Members judge the Student of the Month Applications. From this pool, we will select one male and one female who will each receive a college scholarship.

 

The form is a pdf fill-in. Download the form, then open it and you'll be able to type on it. Please complete this application on the computer to make it as legible as possible (neatly handwritten applications will also be accepted). We encourage students to completely fill in all parts of this application and not to attach a resume in lieu of any of the areas.


Completed application should be submitted to adriana.uribe-colima@lmusd.org . Please include an attachment of your photo with the application. Students need to only apply once. If your application is not chosen in a given month, it will be considered for the following month. The sooner you turn in an application, the more opportunities you will have for selection.

THE MONDAY CLUBHOUSE CONSERVANCY : THE CLASSICAL MUSIC COMPETITION - Click Here!


The 2021 Monday Clubhouse Conservancy Fine Arts Awards Competition recognizes excellence in music and visual arts. This competition is open to high school juniors and seniors who reside in San Luis Obispo County. Applicants compete for 1st ($1,000) and 2nd ($500) place awards in each category. Each discipline requires submission of an online application and digital entries.

ELIGIBILITY:

1) Open to all junior and senior high school students residing in San Luis Obispo County.

2) The applicant may play any musical instrument found in a symphony orchestra or concert band. Piano is included.

3) Any vocal soloist is eligible.

4) No recorded accompaniment is allowed.


The Classical Music Competition opens October 30, 2020. Finalists are selected for each category and are notified in advance of the Finalist Competition, which will be held on Sunday February 21, 2021.  At this time, this event is scheduled to be a virtual event.

2) Instrumental or vocal jazz solo only may apply. (Due to COVID-19, only solo jazz musicians may apply).

ELIGIBILITY:

Open to all junior and senior high school students attending school and residing in San Luis

Obispo County. Each student must submit three (3) ORIGINAL ARTWORKS. All artwork must be ORIGINAL and executed by the hand of the student artist (not necessarily created in a school classroom).


APPLICATION DEADLINE: Visual arts entrants will complete their online application beginning October 30, 2020, then upload their art image and detail after January 2, 2021.  Online Visual Arts Applications are due February 3, 2021.
