Welcome to YOUR Career Center!

Students are encouraged to drop in to the Career Center [Room 208] before school, at break, at lunch, or after school until 4 p.m. [Mondays and Fridays -- let me know in advance that you are coming!]

You can also make an appointment with me to discuss college planning, career assessments, resume help, and so much more. 

The updated Career Center website shows what's new in college presentations, scholarships, and more. It is a work in progress, so check it out as it is updated regularly!

Cash for College Workshop Flyer

Financial Aid Season is Here!

October means it is time to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid [FAFSA] or the California Dream Act [CADAA]. The California Student Aid Commission is offering  a VIRTUAL Statewide Financial Aid 101 Workshop via ZOOM. 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 8th. 

To participate you must register HERE with CSAC, and ALSO register on ZOOM here. 


AGHS will host its own Cash for College Workshop on Monday, Oct. 19th in the Library. Drop in between 4 and 6:30 p.m. for FREE bilingual assistance.

Seniors should bookmark the AGHS Scholarships Page. It is updated weekly with local and state scholarships as they roll in! Scholarship season kicks off in earnest around January -- and vocational careers and trade schools also have scholarship opportunities!

REMINDER: Elks Most Valuable Student  national scholarship competition deadline is Nov. 12. 

Elks Teen of the  Month scholarship happens each month! Visit the website to  download the fillable application! 

You only need to apply ONCE, and any applications not selected will roll over to the next month. See Mrs. O with questions.

PIQ Workshop October 9th

Seniors applying to UC campuses for Fall: 
Mrs. O will offer a PIQ Workshop on Friday, Oct. 9. This is information taken directly from the UC Counselor Conference and years of practical experience!

Choose 2nd, 3rd, 5th, or 6th periods.

Sign up in advance and be sure to clear it with your teacher. You are responsible for making up all missed work.

Thrive Scholars Opportunity for Juniors

Thrive Scholars is a free, six-year program that supports high-achieving, low-income and/or first-generation students from their junior year of high school through college graduation and into meaningful careers. 

Through academic preparation, personalized coaching, career development, and lifelong mentorship, Scholars gain the tools, skills and confidence to reach their full potential.

Requirements: current high school junior with a minimum, unweighted GPA of 3.6 and a minimum household income that does not exceed $125,000 annually.

Trust Automation Presentation

Trust Automation, a local San Luis Obispo defense, semiconductor, and industrial automation company, will have a presentation about its apprenticeship program for high school students in the county. 

Come see what an AI-proof career looks like! 

Juniors and seniors who enjoy building (think LEGOs) and have attention to detail should sign up for the presentation, happening Monday, Oct. 19 during 3rd OR 4th periods in the Career Center (Room 208). See Mrs. O or Click here to sign up.
