Attendance FAQs / Preguntas frecuentes sobre la asistencia

  • Contact the teacher directly. Only the teacher can confirm the student’s presence to the Attendance Office for correction.

  • Comuníquese directamente con el maestro. Solo el maestro puede confirmar la presencia del estudiante a la oficina de asistencia para hacer la corrección.

  • Please have the Parent/Guardian call, send a note, email, or ParentSquare message to the Attendance Office, giving as much prior notice as possible.

The student will be issued a pass. This pass is shown to staff to show that the student has permission to leave campus at the time stated on the pass. Students can be met in the school parking lot.

  • Please have the Parent/Guardian contact the Attendance Office to verify the reason for the absence.

  • El padre/tutor se comunica a la oficina de asistencia para informar el motivo de la ausencia.

  • Please get a Doctor’s note, if possible, so that that absence does not count towards the limited number of absences that the Parent/Guardian may excuse for illness and appointments. Notes can also be faxed or emailed.

  • Obtenga una nota del médico, si es posible, para que esa ausencia no afecte la cantidad de faltas que pueden ser justificadas por enfermedad o citas. Se aceptan notas por fax o por correo electrónico.

AGHS Attendance Policy

  • On the day of your student’s absence, you will receive an automated notification via phone call, text, or email, which details which period(s) your student was absent or tardy for.

You may notify the Attendance Office of the reason for your student’s absence by clicking on the link in the absence notification. Alternatively, you may email the office, call, or send a ParentSquare message.  Please make sure that you respond with the reason for the absence by the Attendance Month deadline.

  • Absences that are not excused may result in the loss or privileges and/or truancy procedings.

All absences are considered unexcused, until the Attendance Office is notified by the parent/guardian of the reason for the absence.  If the reason for the absence is not received by the attendance month deadline, the absence is considered unexcused.

    Examples of Unexcused Absences are:

    • car trouble
    • “personal reasons”
    • family emergency
    • vacation

You may contact the Attendance Office if you have any questions.

  • Parents/Guardians are required to notify the Attendance Office of the reason for their student’s absence.

    Examples of Excused Absences are:

    • Illness or mental health
    • Medical, dental, or chiropractic appointment
    • Attendance at the funeral service of a member of the student’s family
    • Court hearing or Jury Duty
    • Various absences, which require pre-approval by admin

You may contact the Attendance Office if you have any questions.

  • Juniors and Seniors may have up to 2 absences per school year excused for visiting colleges, provided that they submit a college visit form in advance of the visit for admin approval.  College visit forms may be picked up from the Attendance Office window.

  • If the student is going to be UNAVOIDABLY absent for any reason, the Parent/Guardian can request a Short-Term Independent Study Contract (STISC).  Requests for STISCs must be made at least five (5) school days prior to the first day of absence.
