Poetry Out Loud Competition
Students, Like poetry? Have a flair for the dramatic? Like to perform? Interested in winning any of the following prizes such as reserved graduation seating for four, parking permit, yearbook, and lunch paid for by Mr. Grumbles? If you said yes to any of these questions please come to room 307 at break or during lunch or after school any day this week for information about the AGHS Poetry Out Loud competition that will be held on Friday, 1/23. Poetry Out Loud is a national competition in which students select and memorize two poems and then deliver them in front of an audience. A formal meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 14th, but because the competition is earlier this year I want to get information out to any student interested in competing. Last year AGHS took first place at the SLO County competition and scored in the top 5 at the State competition.

The time is now! We are in the final week of the semester and we hope you are doing as well as you can and that you are passing all of your classes! Please remember to speak with your teachers and with your counselor if you are in danger of not passing a class.
Cuesta College Enrichment Classes for Spring Semester: Attention all 11th and 12th graders who need to take a Cuesta College enrichment class in order to keep their reduced day! High school students can register for Cuesta classes for spring semester and you must do that ASAP in order to keep that reduced day. Please see your counselor if you have any questions about this process! If you do not register for a class for spring semester, you may end up with an elective added to your schedule and lose your reduced day.
Seniors and Senior Families: Please remember that completing 20 hours of community service is a GRADUATION REQUIREMENT! Seniors need to be done with all 20 hours by May 1st, but we prefer for them to be done well before so there are no last minute issues. Please check this newsletter for various community service opportunities!
Free Mental Health Support: Lucia Mar is proud to offer all students access to free mental health teletherapy through Daybreak Health. Please see the flyer in the newsletter for more information or call the Counseling Department at (805)474-2030.
Calling all Juniors…RYLA Application: The Rotary Youth Leadership application is due on Friday, December 19th. This program is an amazing opportunity for leadership and is an excellent addition to a college application. Please see the flyer in this newsletter for more information and a QR code to the application. See Mrs. LaBrado if you have any questions!
Happy Winter Break to All! From the AGHS Counseling Department, we wish you a lovely three week break and hope that it is restful and relaxing! We look forward to seeing you when we return in January.
