I hope you had a fun and relaxing Spring Break.

Remember to join me in dressing up on Thursdays [when we don't have a spirit week!] for Higher Ed Thursday! Wear your college, military, or other post-high school gear.

Need an appointment to talk about College, Career, or Community Service? See me in the Career Center (Room 208) before school, at break, at Lunch, or after school most days until 4 p.m.
 

College Happenings

AGHS College Night

The AGHS School Counseling Department is holding College Night this Thursday, April 16, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in the Georgie O'Connor Board Room on Orchard Street. There will be representatives from the CSU and UC systems, as well as California Community Colleges. Students and families in grades 9-11 are encouraged to attend.

Topics covered include admissions requirements, student resources, academic programs, and more. The evening will conclude with a Q&A session featuring experts from Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara, Cuesta College, and Allan Hancock College. 

Cougar Registration Day at AGHS

Seniors who are going to access the Cuesta Promise for Fall 2026 will have the opportunity to register for classes during the school day on Thursday, April 30th in Room 515 on campus. In order to meet with a counselor at the event, students need to have already applied to Cuesta and completed the online orientation.

Can't make it that day? There are Cougar Welcome Days events happening at the SLO campus on Saturday, May 2nd and virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, May 12th.

Questions? See our Outreach Success team in Room 920 every Tuesday morning from 2nd period through Lunch!

SAT Sign-Up Information

Students interested in attending private and/or out-of-state universities may want to take the SAT. Spring test dates are May 2 (Registration Deadline is April 17) and June 6 (Registration Deadline is May 22). Please note that both CSU and UC campuses are test optional and no longer require the SAT or ACT for admission.

Modern Manufacturing Bootcamp:
Hands-on training to start or expand your career in advanced manufacturing and aerospace with great local companies.

Modern Manufacturing Bootcamp

SLO Partners has a Modern Manufacturing Bootcamp that will provide hands-on training to start or expand your career in advanced manufacturing and aerospace with local companies.

Registration is open NOW for the June 15th Bootcamp that runs through July 30th. The program costs $399, and there is a $500 Women in Modern Manufacturing Scholarship available.

Sports Industry Academy Program

The Sports Industry Academy is a one-week immersive summer program hosted at UC Santa Barbara (July 12–17, 2026).  Students will gain exposure to careers in sports business, marketing, media, and law, while connecting with industry professionals and learning how to navigate the college admissions process. This program is for students who are passionate about sports and want to learn about the many career pathways beyond being a professional athlete. Learn more and apply: www.SportsIndustryAcademy.com
Hands-On Human Services Career Fair Flyer

Human Services Career Fair on April 23

Students interested in careers in the Human Services field (public safety, health, and other human services) should plan to attend the Hands On Career Fair happening on the blacktop at Lunch on Thursday, April 23. Organizations will have information, handouts, activities, and more for interested students. Questions? See Coach Q in Room 250.
Atascadero State Hospital Career Fair

Atascadero State Hospital Career Fair

Atascadero State Hospital is hosting a Career Fair open to the public on Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event offers an opportunity to engage with ASH staff regarding various career pathways within the hospital. The event will also include presentations on the state application process and mock interviews.
 

LOCAL JOBS BOARD

Sometimes local employers reach out to share job opportunities for high school students. This is the perfect time to start looking for a Summer job! The following help wanted flyer is the only current listing in Room 208 (Career Center):

Help Wanted!

Pismo Coast Village RV Resort is hiring! They have two positions available with part-time training on weekends during school and full time shifts in the summer. $17/hour. The positions are:
  • Outside Maintenance Technician Trash, cleaning bathrooms, pool care, misc electrical breaker repairs, sprinkler repair, and minor landscaping
  • Front Desk Reservationist. Computer savvy and an eye for detail.

Marine Mammal Center Stewardship Sunday for High School Students

Interested in Environmental Science or Marine Biology? The Marine Mammal Center is offering Stewardship Sunday for high school students to explore the 5R’s: rescue, rehabilitation, research, release, and reaching out. During this event students will be studying marine mammal disturbance cases, and creating resources to share with the larger community. By the end of the event, we hope you will leave with increased understanding of the Center’s work, and will have some goals for next steps you can take on your conservation journey. Lunch provided but you MUST register in advance here.

Design A Chalk Obstacle Course!
