The AGHS School Counseling Department is holding College Night this Thursday, April 16, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in the Georgie O'Connor Board Room on Orchard Street. There will be representatives from the CSU and UC systems, as well as California Community Colleges. Students and families in grades 9-11 are encouraged to attend.
Topics covered include admissions requirements, student resources, academic programs, and more. The evening will conclude with a Q&A session featuring experts from Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara, Cuesta College, and Allan Hancock College.

Seniors who are going to access the Cuesta Promise for Fall 2026 will have the opportunity to register for classes during the school day on Thursday, April 30th in Room 515 on campus. In order to meet with a counselor at the event, students need to have already applied to Cuesta and completed the online orientation.
Can't make it that day? There are Cougar Welcome Days events happening at the SLO campus on Saturday, May 2nd and virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, May 12th.

Students interested in attending private and/or out-of-state universities may want to take the SAT. Spring test dates are May 2 (Registration Deadline is April 17) and June 6 (Registration Deadline is May 22). Please note that both CSU and UC campuses are test optional and no longer require the SAT or ACT for admission.

The Sports Industry Academy is a one-week immersive summer program hosted at UC Santa Barbara (July 12–17, 2026). Students will gain exposure to careers in sports business, marketing, media, and law, while connecting with industry professionals and learning how to navigate the college admissions process. Atascadero State Hospital is hosting a Career Fair open to the public on Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event offers an opportunity to engage with ASH staff regarding various career pathways within the hospital. The event will also include presentations on the state application process and mock interviews.

Interested in Environmental Science or Marine Biology? The Marine Mammal Center is offering Stewardship Sunday for high school students to explore the 5R’s: rescue, rehabilitation, research, release, and reaching out. During this event students will be studying marine mammal disturbance cases, and creating resources to share with the larger community. By the end of the event, we hope you will leave with increased understanding of the Center’s work, and will have some goals for next steps you can take on your conservation journey. Lunch provided but you MUST register in advance here.
