THE FINAL STRETCH!

PLEASE NOTE:
I will be traveling to, attending -- and even co-presenting! -- at conferences on May 12-15 and May 20-22. The Career Center will be CLOSED on those days.

For grades 9-11:
Summer is the PERFECT time to start thinking about the future!
  • Community service in a potential career interest area;
  • College webinars to prep for fall application season; or
  • A job that helps you get valuable real-world experience (and money!)
 

College Happenings

UC Summer Application Bootcamps

UCSB will be hosting UC Application Virtual Summer Bootcamps for fall 2027 applicants applying to any University of California (UC) as a first-year freshman applicant. The webinar series will cover information about the UC system, majors, support programs and the UC application. 

Session dates will be on June 23-25 and a separate series happening July 7-9 for students attending California high schools. More information about the program can be found on our summer bootcamp application website.

Juniors: FREE College Help!

Want to start your college application process but not sure how?

Camp College is a seven-session virtual bootcamp for college applications, sponsored by the Western Association for College Admission Counseling (WACAC). This program is free and open to all high school counselors and students in the graduating class of 2027. Each session will include a presentation and advice from experts, and participants will have the opportunity for their questions to be answered live. All sessions will occur on Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m. PT, starting May 27 - Sept. 30. Click here to Register

AGHS Juniors are able to attend this Summer's College Essay Guy (CEG) Live workshop series FOR FREE! CEG Live is a series of virtual workshops designed to help students with the college essay process.
  • Live and interactive (not prerecorded)
  • Built for rising seniors
You will end the Summer with your personal statement, UC PIQs, and/or your supplemental essays started.

CalKIDS: Free Money!

The California Kids Investment and Development Savings Program (CalKIDS) was launched in 2022 by the State of California to help jumpstart college savings for children statewide by awarding scholarship accounts to youth across the state.

To see if they qualify, students will need the 10-digit Statewide Student Identifier (SSID), found on the AERIES portal, transcript, report card, or come see Mrs. O in 208/Career Center.

Career Opportunities

Healthcare Career Info Session

Interested in a healthcare career after high school? The Lucia Mar Unified School District Adult Education program is partnering with AUMT Institute to provide two programs, in Phlebotomy and Medical Assisting.

Learn how to jumpstart a healthcare career during a FREE online information session on May 19th
Phlebotomy: 10 a.m.
Medical Assistant: 4 p.m.

Language and Culture Opportunity!

The U.S. Department of State’s National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) is a merit-based scholarship program for U.S. high school students to study languages critical to U.S. national security and economic competitiveness. Students that are U.S. citizens, between the ages of 15-18 with a GPA of 2.5 or higher is eligible to apply for the Virtual program.

In Fall 2026 students can apply to learn beginner Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), or Russian. Participants in this merit-based program join virtual classes, led by an experienced teacher, with peers across the U.S. twice a week for ten weeks. Community Service

Need HELP submitting your community service hours?! Tuesdays at Lunch Mrs. Campos will be in Room 515 [The Counseling Hub] to answer questions and help with the process. Drop in!

You will need the Community Service Form filled out and signed when you do your community service hours.
